Honda Responds

9/28/2001 6:14:01 PM

Honda and its associates and dealers offer our sincere condolences and respect to the victims and families involved in the tragic events of September 11, 2001. We also offer our support for, and deep appreciation to, the inspiring efforts of the thousands of American heroes involved in rescue and recovery during this time of national need.

- The Honda Family of Companies

Together with our associates, Honda is working to support assistance programs designed to help cope with these devastating losses. As an immediate step, Honda donated all terrain vehicles (ATVs) to help rescue workers quickly navigate the difficult terrain around the World Trade Center. These vehicles provide immediate aid to speed recovery efforts and cleanup in the area. Honda had previously donated commercial generators to the American Red Cross, for use in disaster relief efforts such as this.

In addition, consistent with our longstanding philosophy of being an employee-driven company, American Honda has established a special associate disaster relief fund to lead our philanthropic response. Company facilities around the country are forwarding contributions to American Honda that will be matched under this program, then supplemented by an additional corporate contribution to the relief efforts.

American Honda sister companies in North America also have undertaken fundraising efforts. Honda of America Mfg. in Ohio will match its associates' contributions to the United Way of New York "September 11 Fund" under a special "Red, White and Blue Days" program September 27 & 28. Associates in our Canadian operations are also providing matching gift funds to the American Red Cross.

Honda continues to evaluate the most effective and meaningful ways to address the needs brought about by these tragic events.
