6/27/2000 6:23:01 AM
In an effort to spread the word among Oregonians about the
environmental benefits of hybrid cars, the Oregon state motor pool
secured its first automobile powered by both electricity and
gasoline, the Insight. Funds available through the Clean Cities
program enabled the state to pay the manufacturer's suggested retail
price of $20,495.
The three-cylinder Insight is rated at 70 miles per gallon on the highway (EPA combined estimate) and 61 in city driving while meeting California's stringent Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV) standard. The two-door Insight is available for state employees on official business and seats two people.
