For its inaugural season of IRL IndyCar racing, Team Rahal has gone with a proven driver for its Honda-powered Dallara: former IRL series champion and Indianapolis 500 winner Kenny Brack.

The 2003 season also marks a return for both Brack and engineer Don Halliday to the Columbus-based team. In 2000-2001, the pair combined to win four CART races for Team Rahal, secure series Rookie of the Year honors in 2000, and finish second in a close 2001 title race.

Founded in 1992 as Rahal-Hogan Racing, the team got off to the best possible start as Rahal became the first owner/driver to win the CART championship in series history. The company was reorganized into its current format in 1995 as Team Rahal, when television talk-show host and Indianapolis native David Letterman replaced Carl Hogan as co-owner of the operation.

The team first became associated with Honda in 1993, leading initial development of the Honda Indy V-8 prior to the company entering competition the following season. In 1994, Rahal scored Honda's first CART podium with a second-place finish at Toronto.

Rahal and Honda went their separate ways in 1995, but the team continued to be a force in CART competition. Rahal retired as a driver following the 1998 season, with his seat taken over by veteran Max Papis. Brack joined the team in 2000 and in 2001, the duo was the winningest team in CART, combining for six race wins, four of them on ovals by Brack. The Swede also finished second in the 2001 season championship.

In addition to the return of Brack, 2003 will see Rahal and Honda renew their association, as the automobile manufacturer undertakes its first season of IRL IndyCar Series racing.
