Michael Andretti, partnered with Kim Green and Kevin Savoree for 2003, has purchased the Team Green organization from founder Barry Green and will lead a three car Honda-powered effort in the IRL IndyCar Series.

Andretti also will continue to head the driving effort, while Dario Franchitti returns for his sixth season with the team, and first full year in the IRL. Tony Kanaan, new to Andretti Green but in his fifth year with Honda power, completes the full-time driver roster.

Andretti Green also has retained promising IRL rookie Dan Wheldon as a fourth driver for the team. The young Briton was the first driver to run the new Honda HI3R engine, in a two-day test of the powerplant at Homestead-Miami Speedway last December. Wheldon, a former championship runner-up in both the Atlantic and Indy Lights categories, will race for Andretti Green at the Indianapolis 500 and other select events this season.

Andretti Green was founded in 1993 as Forsythe-Green Racing, a Formula Atlantic team with Barry Green and Gerald Forsythe as the initial partners. After dominating Atlantic competition with 12 victories in 15 races, Forsythe-Green moved up to CART in 1994, scoring one win with Jacques Villeneuve as the Canadian won series Rookie of the Year honors.

When Forsythe left to organize his own team in 1995, Team Green and Villeneuve went on to win five times, including the Indianapolis 500, and take their first CART championship. Green remained a major force in CART, winning at least one race each year since 1998. Michael Andretti joined the organization as a driver for the Team Motorola entry for the 2001 season, and reached an agreement with Barry Green to become the new majority owner in June, 2002.

This year, Andretti Green shifts its focus to the IRL IndyCar Series, where it will be the lead development team for the new Honda HI3R Indy V-8.
