"When construction of Honda Smart Home US was completed this spring, we opened its doors to the public – to share a peek into a new concept for zero net energy living and transportation. Recently, we opened more than that.

We have actually open sourced all of the architectural and mechanical plans so that anyone could visit www.hondasmarthome.com and use the plans as a tool for their own project.

The house creates enough electricity and is designed to be efficient enough to be zero net grid electricity for itself as well as a years worth of driving an electric car like the Fit EV! That means it produces enough electricity to have no net demand from the grid over a 12-month period! And thousands of visitors have visited its location on the University of California, Davis campus to see for themselves.

This is exactly what we hoped would happen as a result of Honda Smart Home US, not only that Honda would be able to showcase the development of highly efficient technologies, but that the home would spark enough interest that we could make an impact and provide greater value to society."
